Postdoctoral Fellowship Description: 

There are two 2-year postdoctoral fellowships available for scientists who intend to further their training for a career in drug development, academia or regulatory science. The successful applicants will have access to imaging data in order to learn how to apply and become proficient in using population-based disease progression modeling, Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning (AI/ML), and computer simulation approaches to solve drug development and regulatory problems such as optimal clinical trial design and biomarker qualification. Depending on the availability of projects and interests of the applicant, he or she will also learn how to effectively use population pharmacokinetic/pharmacodynamic (PK/PD) models and physiologically based PK/PD models to design clinical trials, understand the pharmacological mechanisms of drug action, explore covariate effects on PK and PD and determine the influence of genetic factors on drug dosing.

Postdoctoral research associates will engage in a combination of duties that will include research projects, graduate student mentoring, grant writing and classroom teaching experiences. It is expected that fellows attend and present at professional meetings, participate in workshops and seminars and prepare at least 3-4 peer-reviewed publications to build a foundation for personal career achievements. In addition to the scientific and clinical duties, fellows are given the opportunity to grow their "soft skills", such as oral communication, presentation skills and working on multi-disciplinary teams.

Job Qualifications:

Preferred qualifications for the position are a doctoral (Ph.D. or equivalent) degree in quantitative sciences including Engineering, Statistics, Mathematics and Systems Biology as well as knowledge of, or experience in, therapeutics in one or more disease areas with an interest in pursuing a career in Quantitative Health Sciences, Pharmacometrics and/or Systems Pharmacology. The ideal candidate should possess strong programming skills, excellent written and verbal communication, good organizational abilities, and team work. Hands-on knowledge in using software platforms such as R, Python, MATLAB, NONMEM, Monolix, or other software/scripting languages is required. A background and understanding of basic pharmacology, pharmacometrics and/or systems biology/pharmacology is preferred. Prior knowledge in AI/ML, computer vision, and/or image analysis is desired. The candidate must be self-directed and self-motivated.
